- How easy is it to get a marriage license?
Just stop by any town clerk's office, fill out the paperwork, and pay a $45 fee. The clerk will issue a marriage license, which is valid immediately. Couples can marry anywhere in the state, and no blood test is required. Once the officiant who conducts the ceremony returns his or her portion of the certificate to the clerk, the license is registered with the state.
- What are the state guidelines for same-sex unions? For same-sex marriages?
Couples have celebrated civil unions in New Hampshire since January 2008. Obtaining a civil-union license is similar to applying for a marriage license. Couples can complete civil-union paperwork at any town clerk’s office. There’s a $45 fee. Residents of other states are free to celebrate a civil union in New Hampshire.
On January 1, 2010, it will be legal for same-sex couples to marry in New Hampshire. Please confirm with the officiating individual or institution they perform same-sex marriage ceremonies. The full text of the law can be found here.

- Our event requires catering to a variety of dietary needs – kosher, low-fat, vegetarian, etc. How might we find an appropriate caterer or restaurant?
New Hampshire chefs are accustomed to catering to groups with varied diets. To find an establishment that suits your needs, go to the New Hampshire Lodging and Restaurant Association or the New Hampshire Department of Economic Development. Make a list of potential businesses, call each to discuss a menu (and food preparation procedures), then make your selection.
- We've decided to get married on the spur of the moment. Are there all-inclusive packages that make planning simple and spontaneous?

State law allows couples to get married anywhere in New Hampshire. That means on trains, mountains, beaches, and at science museums and amusement parks. The sky’s the limit – you can even get hitched in a hot-air-balloon.
